Community football is often measured in fixtures, league tables and trophies. Yet the clubs with the deepest local value do something more enduring: they provide places where people can meet, participate, volunteer and develop confidence. That wider purpose is the most credible lens through which to view Hugill & Ip’s decision to continue sponsoring Pollok United. As confirmed in the firm’s recent announcement, the relationship includes support for the club’s 2011’s squad.
The significance lies in continuity. A season-long sponsorship can put a name on a shirt; an ongoing relationship can instead signal confidence in the patient work that makes a grassroots organisation matter. Young players grow through repeated opportunities to train, compete and belong. Coaches and volunteers need stable networks. Families need trusted local environments. Corporate support cannot replace that work, but it can recognise – and help sustain – the conditions in which it happens.
Pollok United’s own story illustrates how broadly those conditions can reach. Founded in 2011, the Glasgow club now has 18 teams for a range of ages and abilities and holds the Scottish FA’s Platinum Legacy quality mark. Its remit also extends beyond the football pitch. Since taking on the management of Corkerhill Community Hub in 2019, Pollok United has facilitated free activities for local residents, including armchair aerobics, a weekly group for people aged over 50 and line dancing. This is not football as an isolated pastime; it is football as a gateway to participation.
That perspective is reinforced by independent recognition. UEFA named Pollok United its 2025/26 Best Grassroots Club, citing the club’s work to transform three disused sporting facilities in Glasgow and create an inclusive setting for football, health and wellbeing activity. The Scottish FA has likewise highlighted the reopening of Nethercraigs with Glasgow City Council, together with the venue’s use by the club, other local teams and the wider community. The club also enjoyed further success last season, winning the Greenock Easter Cup and the ERSDA Champions Plate.
For Hugill & Ip, the connection is especially coherent because it centres on relationship-building rather than a one-off gesture. The firm’s approach is long term, based on trust, professionalism and discretion. In a community-sport context, that outlook translates naturally into backing an environment in which young people can learn teamwork, resilience and responsibility over time. The sponsorship should therefore be seen as an acknowledgement of Pollok United’s locally rooted work, while respecting the independence and effort of the people who lead it every day.
“Our view is long term. Football has the power to bring different generations and experiences together, particularly when a club places its community at the centre of its work. We are pleased that our continuing sponsorship can stand alongside Pollok United’s efforts, supporting a setting where young people, families and volunteers can build enduring connections.” – Adam Hugill
The most valuable corporate partnerships do not claim the spotlight from the communities they support. They use their visibility responsibly: to celebrate volunteers, encourage participation and draw attention to the facilities and programmes on which local life depends. Hugill & Ip’s continued association with Pollok United offers an example of that principle. It connects a Hong Kong-based independent law firm with a Glasgow grassroots club whose impact is measured not only by the next result, but by the opportunities it continues to make possible.
